As most of us have been spending much more time at home during COVID-19, it is a great time to consider revamping your bathroom. Styles and trends change over the years and bathrooms have become a spa like sanctuary, very far from the long ago toilet closet that was only visited when needed. John’s Lumber has a large selection of cabinetry and countertops to meet your style and budget. Bathroom Trends for 2021
Just a few years ago, you could spot a premium bath by its built-in jetted tub and dual sinks. Now these features can give home buyers the feeling a bathroom is dated.
Soaking and Hydrotherapy Tubs
Recent trends in bath design showcase freestanding tubs as a centerpiece of bath design. Consumer usage trends show that many people rarely use the jetted feature on their tubs and because they can also be harder to maintain, newer homes often include graceful, freestanding soaking tubs instead. Kohler has a large selection of freestanding soaking tubs as well as new hydrotherapy baths that provide the therapeutic benefits of a jetted tub but in a freestanding model that is easier to keep up. Some models even included heating elements that remove that cold feeling when you lean against the back of the tub. The right bathtub can create such an immersive spa experience you hardly want to use your other rooms.
Sinks as Furniture
Trends in sinks have moved to paired sinks on individual stands that often look more like furniture than the combined two sink stations common in many homes built until the early 2000s. Builders and home buyers today prefer the elegance of bath designs common in high end hotels such as The Corinthian in London or Casa del Mar in Santa Monica.

Easy Bath Upgrades
Bath updates can get pretty complex, some of the bigger options require plumbing expertise that not everyone is ready to tackle. If you are thinking about upgrading your bathroom but not a full-scale remodel, there are a number of things you can do in a weekend.
Faucets
If you are patient and handy with basic plumbing tools, you can upgrade your bath faucets in a couple of hours. Just be sure you are replacing your current faucet with the same configuration. If possible, bring pictures of your current faucet (from the top, and if possible the bottom from inside the cabinet) when you come into John’s Lumber, so we can help you select a new faucet that will fit.
Fixtures
The fastest upgrade of all is a change to bath fixtures like the toothbrush holder, soap holder, towel holder and toilet paper holder. You can update your look in just a few minutes.
Cabinets & Countertops
A full cabinet and countertop remodel is a bigger project, but can be done rather quickly in most bathrooms if you are not moving plumbing. New cabinetry can provide a whole different look and feel and make the entire room feel more current and fresh. It also can provide more useful storage possibilities than older cabinetry making it much more functional.
Whether you want to do minor touchups or a full bathroom remodel, John’s Lumber designers can help you get the most out of your bathroom. Contact us or stop by our Clinton Twp. or Shelby Twp. locations.
